Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51M Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average reached over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
